Building Safety Report

An existing building is assessed by an engineer before it is bought, extended, re-used or repaired. We inspect every structural element we can reach, support the non-destructive tests that confirm what the eye cannot, and write down the risks we find and what we recommend doing about them.

What the service covers

  • Structural condition assessment
  • Visual inspections of all structural elements
  • Non-destructive testing support
  • Risk assessment and recommendations

Who it is for

  • Owners of older villas and buildings who want to know their condition
  • Buyers, before they commit to a property
  • Owners planning an extension, a change of use or major repairs

How we work

  1. Documents

Existing drawings, permits and the building's history, where they exist.

  2. Inspection

A visual inspection of the structural elements: foundations where exposed, columns, beams, slabs, walls.

  3. Testing

Where the inspection calls for it, non-destructive tests to confirm the condition of the concrete and reinforcement.

  4. Report

Findings, the risks they carry, and recommendations in order of priority.

Questions

What does the report contain?

The structural condition of the building, the results of the visual inspection and of any tests, an assessment of the risks, and our recommendations.

My building has cracks. Is that a safety problem?

Not every crack is structural, and some that look minor are. An engineer's inspection is the way to tell; the report explains what each one means and what to do.
